Soweto, short for South Western Townships, is an urban area in the greater metropolis of Johannesburg, Gauteng. The former is located in Nelson Mandela’s old house and is filled with his personal artefacts. The latter is situated two blocks away from where Hector Pieterson was shot and killed. The museum is named in his honour and became one of the first museums in Soweto when it opened in on 16 June 2002.
